Apartment fire quickly under control

ELKHART — Firefighters were called to an apartment fire in the 3400 block of Pecan Place about 12:32 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from the City of Elkhart Fire Department. 

Heavy smoke was showing from the second floor window when the first engine arrived. 

Firefighters entered through the front door and located the fire in a bedroom and had the fire under control by 1:05 p.m. without difficulty, the release said. 

No one was at home and the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. 

According to the release, the fire caused approximately $30,000 worth of damage to the building and $5,000 worth of damage to contents. 

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
