AUSTIN, Texas — An Elkhart native is continuing his rise through the Texas military and making his family proud.

In 1983, a week after graduating from Elkhart Central High School, Monie R. Ulis left for Texas. After two years, hoping to travel, learn new skills and advance, he saw an opportunity in the armed forces.
