Apan, Elkhart sister city

Elkhart and the Mexican city of Apan officially became sister cities on Monday evening.

ELKHART — As the mayors of Elkhart and Apan, Mexico, signed agreements to become sister cities, family members of the Apan-born Elkhart resident Alvaro Marquez, who died in December, were present on both sides of the border.

Marquez was one of many to migrate from Apan to Elkhart, making the bond between the two cities strong even before it became official on Monday evening.
