North Main Street

The City Council will vote Monday on whether to approve spending $2.8 million on water, street and signal improvements on North Main Street and the Jackson Boulevard and Prairie Street intersection.

ELKHART — The busiest intersection in town and a “forgotten” section of Main Street will be upgraded next year if the City Council appropriates a combined $2.8 million for the projects.

The intersection at Jackson Boulevard and Johnson and Prairie streets sees the most traffic of any intersection that is maintained by the city, according to City Engineer Tory Irwin. It also neighbors a real estate business south of the intersection that isn’t connected to city water, so that is part of what the project will fix.
