Elkhart City Hall entrance

After spending $66,000 of CARES Act funds on upgrading the Elkhart City Hall video equipment, the city is spending $2,133 on tablets for the City Council members.

ELKHART — The City of Elkhart has bought tablets for its nine City Council members to ease virtual meeting participation and as a result of one member not being able to access his city emails. The administration claims the expense meets the criteria for federal coronavirus funding, but at least one council member questions that.

The tablets will have the city’s email system and the Webex app for virtual participation in meetings installed before the council members get them ahead of their next meeting.

They should just meet in person

The mayor should have paid for the tablets out of his $500,000.00 “slush fund “
