ELKHART — Beginning this week and continuing through March 31, the Midwest Museum of American Art presents the annual exhibition of artwork selected from five area high schools’ art education programs.

The exhibit began Sunday, March 4, and continues on view through Sunday, March 31.

This event has been held annually for the past 39 years in conjunction with National Youth Art Month. The exhibit is an annual observance of Youth Art in the Elkhart area high schools and provides an opportunity for students, grades 9 through 12, who have realized success in art to have their work exhibited in a museum setting.

During Youth Art Month, attention is focused on the vitally important work carried on in the area of art education throughout the year. Art education in general and Youth Art in Elkhart, in particular, are uniquely capable of bringing about many of the goals of public education, including goals of self-esteem, visual awareness, fostering critical thinking skills, and appreciation of individual differences.

Sponsors for Youth Art in Elkhart 2018 include William and Linda Becker, Elkhart Evening Optimists, Elkhart Kiwanis Club, Elkhart Lions Club, Elkhart Luncheon Optimists, Middlebury Breakfast Optimists, Northern Box Company, State Farm Insurance – Rocky Enfield, Abby Thomas, Ken and Kathy Zienty.

The Midwest Museum of American Art is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4  p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 - 4 p.m. Admission charges apply.
