VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Navy Lt. Rebecca Samuels, a 2011 Purdue University graduate and native of Elkhart, was awarded her second Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal serving as international military student officer for Training Support Center Hampton Roads (TSCHR), Virginia.
Samuels accepted a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship and attended Purdue University from 2007 to 2011. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology and was commissioned as an ensign.
She attends the Naval War College School of Distance Education through the Graduate Degree Program and is studying Theater Security Management and Joint Maritime Operations under the Joint Professional Military Education curriculum.
Samuels’ first tour was with the USS Dewey (DDG105) where she served as the fire control officer, electrical officer, and morale welfare and recreation officer. Her second Division Officer tour was with the USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG108) where she served as the damage control assistant and was deployed to 7th Fleet.
TSCHR provides centralized student management and training support to Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) activities within the Hampton Roads area of responsibility. It provides infrastructure support that enables Learning Sites to effectively and efficiently deliver combat ready personnel to the fleet.
Samuels’ awards include: the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and the Battle Efficiency (two awards).
