WAKARUSA — Chloe Canen of Wakarusa will celebrate her 100th birthday.
She was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Harrison Township and has resided in Wakarusa her entire life.
She graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1934.
After graduating she worked at CTS to earn money to go to nursing school.
After earning the money she went to Colorado to La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing where she graduated in 1947.
When she returned home she got a job at Elkhart General Hospital where she was head nurse after working there only six months.
She worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1977 to take care of her mother.
She also worked part time as a home care nurse for different people in the community.
She is a member of Olive Mennonite Church where she played the organ in her younger years.
She enjoyed quilting, making quilts for the Relief Sale and for some of her nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed traveling, which she has been in all of the 50 states plus traveling internationally.
Now she enjoys word search books, color books, exercising, crafts, Bible Study and worship services at Miller’s.
Friends and family are invited to an open house celebrating her 100th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at The Gathering Room at Miller’s Assisted Living in Wakarusa.
Refreshments will be served.
