On April 11, it will be 50 years since the deadly twin tornadoes ripped through Elkhart County, leaving 52 people dead in its wake. Paul Huffman, one of most seasoned, award-winning chief photographers and reporters in The Elkhart Truth’s history, was driving down U.S. 33 on his way home with his wife, Betty, when he spotted the tornadoes.
