Pinewood sweeps elementary softball tourneys

Panther boys finish unbeaten, while girls close with one loss.

ELKHART — Pinewood swept the boys and girls Elkhart elementary school softball tournaments this year.

In the more recently contested girls event, coach Cheryl Gough’s Panthers downed coach Kyle Shoemaker’s Monger club 9-2. Each team finished the season with just one loss.

Winning pitcher Victoria Swoverland fired a two-hiter with 13 strikeouts. She also tripled, while Michaela Whitaker added two hits for Pinewood.

In the boys final, coach Seth Schoetzow’s Panthers topped Eastwood 3-1 behind Ty Windy’s three-hitter. Two of the Wildcats’ hits were by Chance Biddle.

Pinewood closed 6-0 and Eastwood 7-1.
