ELKHART — Surf Sadowey, of Elkhart, will compete in the team championship portion of Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition on Saturday, June 14, in conjunction with a Chicago White Sox home game against Kansas City at U.S. Cellular Field.

Sadowey, a 13 year old who will be in the eighth grade at St. Thomas the Apostle School next fall, earned his spot by winning the 13 to14 age division sectional championship recently at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. His overall score had to rank in the top three among the nine individuals who won sectionals in Indiana, Illinois or Wisconsin.

Team championships are being held at all 30 MLB ballparks during June. Top-three finishers in each age group advance to the national finals, which will take place as part of MLB’s All-Star Week, July 11-15, in Minneapolis.

A year ago, Surf’s brother, Gunnar, won the 13-14 Team Championship, also at U.S. Cellular.
