Penn, Westview invited to expanded Team State Duals in Muncie

MUNCIE — Penn and Westview are part of a talented field that will compete for a dual meet state wrestling championship next January.

The Kingsmen and Warriors have been invited to wrestle in the third annual Team State Duals, hosted by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association.

The meet will be Jan. 3, 2015, at Ball State University in Muncie.

After two cramped years at Westfield High School, the event is being shifted eastward to Cardinal Fieldhouse, where there will be more room for teams and spectators alike.

Also, the field is being expanded to 36 teams. There will be 12 teams in each of three classes, determined by school enrollment. The previous two tournaments saw eight teams in each class.

Penn will compete in Class AAA for large schools while Westview will take part in Class A for small schools.

The IHSWCA uses a computer program to select the teams, weighing several factors. The IHSWCA tournament has no relationship to the individual state tournament run by the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) in February.

The IHSWCA announced its field as follows:

Class AAA (large schools): Penn, Evansville Mater Dei, Avon, Franklin Community, Bloomington South, Indianapolis Cathedral, Warren Central, Perry Meridian, Carmel, Fort Wayne Carroll, New Palestine, Westfield.

Class AA (medium schools): Gibson Southern, Bellmont, Mt. Vernon (Posey), South Bend St. Joseph, Evansville Memorial, Yorktown, Southmont, Rochester, Lebanon, Leo, Franklin County, Columbia City.

Class A (small schools): Churubusco, Eastside, Bremen, Tecumseh, West Central, Monrovia, Central Noble, Milan, Westview, Triton Central, Prairie Heights, Adams Central.
