Raiders, Falcons among ranked softball teams in preseason polls

Elkhart County softball teams are waiting for warmer days. In anticipation of the start of the season, Northridge was ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, and Fairfield No. 5 in Class 3A by the coaches association.

Northridge's deep run in the state softball tournament in 2013 has landed the Raiders in the No. 3 spot in the first coaches association rankings for 2014.

In Class 4A, Northridge follows Portage and Huntington North. South Bend Riley and Penn are just outside the top 10.

A year ago, Portage eliminated Northridge in the 4A semistate.

Fairfield, another semistate qualifier, is the preseason No. 5 in Class 3A followed by South Bend St. Joseph at No. 6 and Mishawaka Marian at No. 7. Bremen is slotted at No. 4 in 2A.
