Northern Indiana Conference honors top performers in girls basketball

Mishawaka's Taylor Parmley was voted the Northern Indiana Conference's MVP. Penn's Kristi Kaniewski Ulrich is the NIC Coach of the Year.

SOUTH BEND — Penn went 8-0 and won its fifth straight Northern Indiana Conference girls basketball title in 2013-14.

The Kingsmen placed Caroline Buhr on the all-NIC first team and Penn's Kristi Kaniewski Ulrich was named by her peers as NIC Coach of the Year.

Mishawaka's Taylor Parmley was chosen as NIC MVP.

All-NIC Girls Basketball

First team: Sr. Taylor Parmley (Mishawaka), Sr. Taloni Reese (South Bend Adams), Sr. Paige Avery (Mishawaka), Sr. Caroline Buhr (Penn), Jr. Tiara Murphy (South Bend Washington), Jr. Madeline Raster (South Bend St. Joseph).

Second team: Sr. Erin Guzicki (Marian), Sr. Kaitlin Elsasser (Mishawaka), Sr. Tagin Schultheis (Mishawaka), Sr. Jessica Alexander (Penn), Jr. Camille Coleman (South Bend Washington), Jr. Michelle Weaver (South Bend St. Joseph), So. Camryn Buhr (Penn).

Area honorable mention: Penn — Jr. Lauren Ellenberger. 

NIC MVP: Taylor Parmley (Mishawaka).

NIC Coach of the Year: Kristi Kaniewski Ulrich (Penn).

Final NIC standings: Penn 8-0, Mishawaka 7-1, SB Adams 6-2, SB Washington 5-3, SB St. Joseph 4-4, Marian 3-5, SB Riley 1-7, SB Clay 1-7, Elkhart Central 1-7.

 Elkhart Titans tryouts scheduled for Aug. 30.
