 Steve Alford is shown directing his New Mexico team on Feb. 23, 2013, against Colorado State. Alford, now the coach at UCLA, coached current NorthWood coach Aaron Wolfe at Manchester, and left lasting impressions along the way.

Steve Alford, who is entering his second season coaching UCLA, started his career at Manchester College. NorthWood coach Aaron Wolfe played for him there and shared the story of a practice he’ll never forget.

He’s a rarity as a home-grown head coach and as a head coach with no such varsity experience, let alone both those things.
