Karvel Anderson (left) and Robert Morris travel to Michigan schools twice this coming season.
Karvel Anderson isn’t scheduled to play anywhere particularly close to his hometown Elkhart during his senior college basketball season, but he and the Robert Morris University Colonials are slated to make a couple trips into Michigan, as well as have a nationally televised rematch with Kentucky.
The RMU schedule came out recently, and it includes a Thursday, Nov. 14, date at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti and a Sunday, Dec. 22, visit to Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. Tip times for those games are set for 7:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
The Colonials also journey into storied Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky., for a 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, showdown with the Wildcats, ranked No. 1 in some preseason polls.
Host RMU shocked top-seeded Kentucky 59-57 in last season’s opening round of the NIT on ESPN.
The rematch is scheduled to be televised by ESPN2.
That game also means both Anderson and his former Elkhart Memorial teammate, Todd Johnson of Northern Kentucky, get a chance to visit Rupp Arena this coming season. The Norse play there exactly week earlier on Nov. 10.
As for RMU’s two trips into Michigan, they do bring Anderson closer to home than at any time last season, and do send him back to the state where he put up prolific junior college numbers for Glen Oaks.
Eastern Michigan, about 10 minutes from Ann Arbor, is about three hours and 170 miles from Elkhart by car.
Oakland is about 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 210 miles from Elkhart by car.
The Colonials went 24-11 overall last season and won the Northeast Conference at 14-4.
Anderson, who averaged a team-leading 12.5 points and drained 82 triples, is joined as prominent returnees for RMU by fellow seniors Lucky Jones (11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds) and Mike McFadden (8.5, 3.5).
The Colonials’ 2013-14 schedule, which at least appears significantly upgraded over last winter’s, also includes trips to Oklahoma State (Dec. 30 on ESPNU) and Alabama (Jan. 4). RMU did travel last season to Xavier and Arkansas, among other stops.
