One jersey sold for $6,200 and a set of tickets for $3,250 at Phil Preston auction

Posted on Aug. 26, 2013 at 1:00 a.m. | Updated on Aug. 26, 2013 at 5:15 p.m.

Below is what each of the 31 items sold for during the Phillip Preston Memorial Scholarship Fund live auction on Saturday, Aug. 24, at McCormick Creek Golf Course in Nappanee.

The items fetched a combined $33,600.

That included Charlie Roeder capping the evening by buying a Larry Bird-autographed Boston Celtics jersey for $6,200.

Further descriptions of the auction items were included in a blog entry last week.

A story further updating the fundraising efforts will appear on etruth.com and in Tuesday’s Elkhart Truth print edition.

More than $87,000 had been raised for the Preston scholarship fund as of Saturday, including via the auction, a letter-writing campaign, a golf outing, contributions by the Elkhart County Community Foundation and more.

One bonus observation: Not surprisingly, you can certainly see from some of the figures below that it was a basketball crowd more than a football crowd at the auction. About 175 people were on hand.
