Concord's Nick DeFreese, Penn's Colin McNamara invited to North-South All-Star Series

Concord and Penn high schools will be represented at the North-South All-Star Series in July.

RICHMOND — Concord's Nick DeFreese and Penn's Colin McNamara are among the players invited to play in the 2014 Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North-South All-Star Series July 11 to 13 at Earlham College.

DeFreese, a shortstop and pitcher, hit .500 with two triples, 10 doubles, 32 runs batted in, 24 runs scored, six wins, three saves, 1.45 earned-run average and 68 strikeouts for the Jim Treadway-coached Minutemen this spring for the Class 4A Elkhart Sectional champion Minutemen.

McNamara, a first baseman playing for Hall of Fame coach Greg Dikos, hit .521 with six home runs, four triples, eight doubles, 40 RBI in and 33 runs scored for the Plymouth Sectional-winning Kingsmen.

Tyler Beck of South Bend St. Joseph was also invited.

Elkhart Memorial pitcher Jake Tucker is an alternate.
