Penn graduate Chad Whitmer goes 2-0 for Southern Illinois baseball in 2014

The 6-foot-3 right-hander had a 4.00 earned run average and 29 strikeouts in 36 innings for the NCAA Division I Salukis.

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Chad Whitmer, a Penn High School graduate, has completed his freshman baseball season at Southern Illinois University.

The 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher appeared in 16 games for the NCAA Division I Salukis and went 2-0 with a 4.00 earned run average. In 36 innings (all in relief), he struck out 29 and walked 15 while opponents hit .279 against him.

Whitmer is scheduled to play this summer for the Richmond (Ind.) RiverRats of the Prospect League.
