Ryan Thompson, Bethel grad, named baseball coach of the year at MidAmerica Nazarene

Ryan Thompson, in his eighth season as head coach at the NAIA-member school in Olathe, Kan., saw his Pioneers win 35 of their first 48 games.

OLATHE, Kan. — Ryan Thompson, a 2000 Bethel College graduate and former pitching coach for the Pilots, was named Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball coach of the year for 2014 after guiding MidAmerica Nazarene University to its first conference title since 1984.

Thompson, in his eighth season as head coach at the NAIA-member school, saw his Pioneers win 35 of their first 48 games.

While at Bethel, Thompson worked with Justin Masterson, now the ace of the Cleveland Indians staff, and Eric Stults, a starter for the San Diego Padres.




 The South Bend Silver Hawks held on for a 5-4 win Monday, July 21.
