Unbeaten Memorial rolls in Blueberry tournament

Nussbaum scores three times for Bethany.

Elkhart Memorial remained unbeaten in boys soccer, as the Crimson Chargers rolled to decisive wins at the Blueberry Festival Tournament in Plymouth on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The Chargers defeated South Bend Clay 11-1, as four players scored two goals apiece. In the second game of the day, Jaime Garcia scored three goals to pace Memorial to an 11-2 victory over Winamac.

At Waterford Mills, senior Nate Nussbaum scored three times to lead Bethany Christian (3-2) to a 3-2 victory over Culver Academy. Two of the goals were unassisted with the only assist coming from senior Issac Brenneman. The three scores brought Nussbaum’s season total to nine goals.

Memorial goals: Brayan Vargas 2, Oscar Ocampo 2, Daniel Bummet 2, Wisdom Chigwada 2, Jaime Mayorga, Jaime Garcia, Angel Lucero.

ELKHART MEMORIAL 11, WINAMAC

Memorial goals: Jaime Garcia 3, Daniel Brummet 2, Gerardo Guzman 2, Brayan Vargas 1, Wisdom Chigwanda, Angel Lucero, Juan Fernandez.

Winamac goals: Tyler Hintz, Own goal.

Record: Memorial 5-0-1.
