MISHAWAKA — A strong second half for the Marian Knights was not enough to get them past New Prairie as Marian fell 27-14 Friday, Aug. 29, in a game not decided until after midnight due to lightning delays.

New Prairie kept the ball on the ground, netting 225 rushing yards and went into the third quarter up 14-0. After New Prairie scored to open the third, Marian responded with 62-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Devin Cannady to running back Jacob Whitfield.

The Cougars scored again in the fourth quarter, and again Cannady and Whitfield hooked up, this time on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Whitfield finished the game with six receptions for 132 yards, but Marian was held to just 46 yards rushing in the game.

The Knights are now 1-1.
