The 2005 Jimtown High School graduate and son of former Jimtown and newly named Elkhart Central head coach Randy DeShone is already putting Three Rivers players through their summer paces.
"I have to instill a system," said DeShone, who served an assistant to Michael Edison at LaVille the past two seasons after one season as head coach at Jimtown and two as assistant to Jason Ridge at Northridge. "I get to build my own program. This is my opportunity to put my name on something. It'll be a challenge, but it's something I'm looking forward to."
DeShone takes over a Wildcats team that went 3-18 overall under head coach Frelen Gowen.
Three Rivers, where Pete Anderson is athletic director, is a member of the Class B Wolverine Conference’s West Division. The Wolverine West also includes Edwardsburg.
"We've got good numbers and absolutely beautiful facilities and a very supportive administration," said DeShone. "There's a lot of learning to do."
DeShone plans to take some of the things he did at Northridge, Jimtown and LaVille and use it with the Wildcats.
"We'll want to play good defense and rebound," said DeShone. "But the most important thing is to be in position to win at the end of the game whether you have to play fast, medium or slow."
DeShone, who played one season at Ball State University and three at Indiana University South Bend, has been hired to teach middle school physical education at Three Rivers.
