Fairfield's Mast, NorthWood duo each fall in state tennis quarterfinals

Falcon sophomore suffers her only loss all season, closes at 28-1, while Walter, Schwartz finish at 19-4.

INDIANAPOLIS — Fairfield sophomore Emily Mast and the NorthWood doubles pair of Kennedy Walter and Tori Schwartz each saw their standout girls high school tennis seasons end with straight-set losses in the IHSAA individual tournament state quarterfinals Friday, June 13, at Park Tudor High School.

Mast fell 6-2, 6-2 to fellow unbeaten Denise Azcui of Bloomington South.

The Falcon star closed at 28-1, while Azcui, a junior, improved to 20-0.

Walter, a senior, and Schwartz, a junior, were downed 6-3, 6-2 by Fort Wayne Carroll’s Makenzie Schoeff and Taylor Stanchin.

The NorthWood pair finished 19-4 together, while the Carroll duo upped their mark to 28-2.

Semifinals in both singles and doubles are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Park Tudor, with championships slated for 2 p.m.
