Penn's Joecken, Marian's Young share NIC softball MVP

Kingsmen pitcher Mackenzie Joecken and Marian outfielder Cassie Young voted top performers.

SOUTH BEND — Penn High School senior pitcher Mackenzie Joecken and champion Marian High School senior outfielder Cassie Young have been named co-MVPs for the 2014 Northern Indiana Conference softball season.

Besides Joecken and Cassie Young, the first team features Penn junior infielder Monica Smith, Penn sophomore outfielder Addison Pixley, Marian senior infielder Jamie Young, Marian junior outfielder Kelsey Keilman and Marian freshman designated hitter Brooke Stoltz.

Their peers named Marian's George Grenert and St. Joseph's Earl Keith as co-NIC Coaches of the Year.
