LAPORTE — Three area high school tennis players have advanced to the state individual and doubles finals after winning LaPorte Regional titles Saturday, June 7.
Unbeaten Fairfield sophomore Emily Mast (22-0) has reached state for the second straight year after cruising through the regional.
Mast won the first match against Michaela Egriova of Hammond Morton by a score of 6-0 and 6-0. She then claimed the title with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Michigan City Marquette’s Abigail Schmidt.
Meanwhile, the NorthWood doubles team of Kennedy Walter and Tori Schwartz advanced to state with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Chesterton’s Ellen Kerr and Natalie Petro. Walter and Schwartz, now 19-3 on the year, had drawn a bye in the first round.
The tournament will begin at Indianpolis Park Tudor High School at 5 p.m. Friday, June 13 at 2 p.m. The semifinals and finals will be held Saturday, June 14.
