LAPORTE — Wawasee senior Katy Ashpole has forfeited her LaPorte Regional girls high school tennis individual singles semifinal on Saturday, June 7.

Ashpole is the Class of 2014 salutatorian and the class president, and has opted to attend her graduation and speak that same day, Warrior coach Christine Winters confirmed Thursday.

Ashpole’s graduation party is also slated for that day.

Ashpole (10-11) was scheduled to play Michigan City Marquette’s Abigail Schmidt (16-1). Schmidt now advances to the 3 p.m. ET final, where she will await the winner of the 11 a.m. match between Fairfield’s Emily Mast (26-0) and Hammond Morton’s Michaela Egrlova (17-4).

The regional takes place at Kesling Park.
