ELKHART — Kate Cobb has been selected the 2014 winner of the Catherine Wolf Award — and in the process has given the honor its first-ever mother-daughter combination.

The Elkhart Central three-sport standout was chosen Monday evening, June 2, as recipient of the award presented annually to Elkhart Community Schools’ top senior female athlete.

Cobb’s mom, the former Jennifer DuBois of Elkhart Memorial, shared the Wolf in 1984 with Central’s Tish Lovan.

“I honestly could’ve broken down in tears,” Cobb said of learning she’d been picked. “It feels good to be recognized for all the hours of practice. And to follow in my mom’s footsteps, that’s kind of been a goal because she’s been such a great role model. My family has supported me through all the crazy stuff.”

A committee selected by ECS voted on the award Monday.

Cobb, who starred in volleyball, softball and diving for Central — and will continue with volleyball at Huntington University — will be saluted at the 36th Wolf banquet on Thursday, June 12, at the Matterhorn. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner and then program starting around 6.

Tickets are $20. For reservations, call ECS at 574-262-5563.
