ELKHART — Concord saw its confidence grow with early success.

Warsaw strung hits together for a five-run third inning.

Concord beat Elkhart Memorial 7-2 and Warsaw topped Northridge 7-3 Saturday, May 31, in the semifinals of the Class 4A Elkhart Sectional at Memorial's Charger Field.

Concord beat NLC opponent Memorial again (the squads split the first two meetings).

The Minutemen (14-15) and Tigers (11-15) are scheduled to play for the championship at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2. The two Northern Lakes Conference clubs split two games during the regular season (8-1 Warsaw and 5-3 Concord).

Brenden Curry doubled and later scored on a mishandled ball in the outfield to spot Concord to 1-0 lead in the second inning.

"To push that one across for us was huge," said Minutemen coach Jim Treadway. "Once we broke through, we believed we could score some runs."

Curry drove in three runs and also pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts.

"That's a good team," said Treadway of Memorial (17-12-1). "Curry did an unbelievable job of keeping them off-balance."

"(Curry) was effectively erratic," said Chargers coach Scott Rost. "He was in the zone enough to get us swinging and — at the same time — he was erratic enough that we had trouble squaring it up consistently.”

There were plenty of offensive chances for Northridge (16-12), which collected 11 hits against Warsaw. The Raiders left nine baserunners on base, including six at either second or third base with two each stranded in the second, third and fourth innings.

Justin Oberlin knocked in three runs and Brandon Shipp plated two for the Tigers.

Sam Troyer had two hits, including a double, and scored two bases and scored one run for Northridge.
