ELKHART — Ryan Kupferschmid, the leading scorer in Elkhart Christian Academy boys basketball history, has signed a letter of intent to continue his playing career at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa.
Kupferschmid will recive a scholarship for pastoral studies while attending Faith, according to ECA athletic director Craig Coffman.
A two-time Elkhart Truth All-Area second-teamer, Kupferschmid helped coach Ryan Culp’s Eagles compile the best record in the 10-year IHSAA portion of the school’s history this past season at 17-5.
The 6-foot-2 Kupferschmid averaged 15.6 points and 6.3 rebounds. One of the area’s premier 3-point shooters, he hit 69-of-172 outside the arc for 40.1, and a year earlier as a junior he set an Elkhart County record with 11 treys in one game.
Among Kupferschmid’s many honors, he is an all-state academic selection.
The Faith Baptist Eagles are NCAA Division III members as well as a National Christian College Athleteic Association-sanctioned program.
Faith Baptist went 17-12 overall last season, 8-3 in the Midwest Christian College Conference, and is coached by Brian Fincham.
