Nixon strikes out 12; Mattingly goes deep twice in softball

Northridge moves to 12-1 in NLC play while NorthWood’s Allie Mattingly homers twice.

Northridge continued to hold onto its one-game lead on Concord in the Northern Lakes Conference softball race by beating Elkhart Memorial 4-2 on Tuesday, May 20. With one NLC game left each, the Raiders are 12-1 and the Minutemen 11-2 in NLC play.

Winning pitcher Haley Nixon had 12 strikeouts added a pair of hits for the Raiders against Memorial.

At Warsaw, senior Allie Mattingly slugged two homers and drove in four to lead NorthWood to a wild 18-9 victory over the host Tigers in NLC play.

At Walkerton, Bailey Clark had three hits, including a homer, and drove in five, as Jimtown defeated Glenn 17-1 in Northern State Conference action.

At Topeka, Danica Mast tossed a no-hitter to lead Fairfield to a 15-0 victory over arch-rival Westview in Northeast Corner Conference play. The Falcons had 15 hits in the game, all of them singles.

Fairfield then turned around and hosted Prairie Heights in another NECC game and posted an easy 14-4 victory. Winning pitcher Lairen Miller allowed just four hits in the circle, while hitting a pair of doubles for the Falcons.
