Penn, Northridge, Marian, Fairfield top-10 picks in final softball rankings

Kingsmen No. 3, Raiders No. 4 in Class 4A; Knights No. 6, Falcons No. 10 in Class 3A.

GOSHEN — Penn (No. 3 in Class 4A), Northridge (No. 4 in 4A), Marian (No. 6 in 3A) and Fairfield (No. 10 in 3A) are area top-10 teams in the final Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association rankings of the 2014 softball season.

The No. 1 squads are Crown Point (4A), South Dearborn (3A), Lakewood Park Christian (2A) and North Miami (1A).

The IHSAA tournament begins next week.

Class 4A

1. Crown Point; 2. Lafayette Harrison; 3. PENN; 4. NORTHRIDGE: 5. New Palestine; 6. Greenwood; 7. Fort Wayne Carroll; 8. Franklin Central; 9. Jennings County; 10. Carmel.

Class 3A

1. South Dearborn; 2. Lebanon; 3. Rochester; 4. Gibson Southern; 5. Hanover Central; 6. MARIAN; 7. Leo; 8. Yorktown; 9. Greensburg; 10. FAIRFIELD.

Class 2A

1. Lakewood Park Christian; 2. Evansville Mater Dei; 3. Cascade; 4. Wapahani; 5. Hammond Noll; 6. Eastside; 7. Eastern (Greentown); 8. Clinton Central; 9. Indianapolis Scecina; 10. South Spencer.

Area teams receiving votes: Bremen.

Class 1A

1. North Miami; 2. Rising Sun; 3. Clay City; 4. Borden; 5. South Central (LaPorte); 6 (tie). Tecumseh and Caston; 8. Pioneer; 9. Covington; 10. Triton.
