Raiders roar back to earn split

Raiders rule nightcap against Falcons; Concord nips Memorial; Jims outslug Minutemen; Penn sweeps.

Posted on May 17, 2014 at 11:40 p.m.

Andrew Kennedy and Craig Kasten both homered, and Payton Carson fired a shutout as Northridge roared back to salvage a doubleheader split against visiting Fairfield with a 12-0 high baseball victory Saturday, May 17.

In the opener, Ben Hunley drove in three runs with three hits as the Falcons claimed a 10-6 win. Kennedy doubled twice among three hits for the Raiders in that game.

At Elkhart Memorial, Matt Williams’ suicide squeeze bunt put Concord on top 3-2, and the score stood up as the Minutemen beat the Crimson Chargers 3-2 on a two-hitter by Nick DeFreese.

The loss dropped Memorial to 8-4 in the Northern Lakes Conference — tied with NorthWood for first place in the league with two NLC games remaining for each team.

Earlier in the day at Jimtown, the Jimmies won a 14-9 slugfest against Concord. Dylan Guldager homered for the Jims, while Brenden Curry homered and drove in four runs for the Minutemen. Trevor Hobbs doubled twice among three hits for Jimtown.

At NorthWood, Vincent Miranda pitched five innings of shutout relief as the Panthers beat Warsaw 5-1.

At Penn, Colin McNamara drove in four runs in the nightcap as the Kingsmen (18-4) completed a 5-2, 10-2 sweep over Crown Point (17-7). Cole Harlacher and Tyler Perry each had five hits on the day for Penn.
