Mishawaka holds off Penn boys for NIC Meet title

Mishawaka edged Penn 129-122 for the Northern Indiana Conference boys track and field meet title Wednesday, May 13, at Elkhart Central’s Rice Field.

The host Blue Blazers were sixth among the nine competing schools.

Penn’s Thomas Gales raced to the 800-meter title and teammate Isaiah Cook ruled the shot put, while the Kingsmen also took a pair of relays.

South Bend Adams’ Andy Timmons, the champion of both distance runs, was voted league MVP.

In the Northern Lakes Conference meet at Warsaw, Wawasee's Clayton Cook won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 200.

Elkhart Memorial's Blake Kramer (800) and Goshen's Jacob Isnogle (pole vault) were also among the event winners.

Warsaw took its fourth straight NLC team title.

At Fairfield, Westview’s Trey Kennedy won the pole vault at 14 feet even as the Northeast Corner Conference Meet got underway. Finals were contested in four events. The meet concludes Friday.
