INDIANAPOLIS — Rigoberto Lopez of Goshen High School is among 36 players and other basketball-affiliated seniors statewide who have been presented 2014 Indiana Basketball Coaches Association scholarships.

Lopez, according to Goshen boys coach Brian Bechtel, has been a Redskin student manager for six years, coming aboard while he was still in junior high.

"Rigo's done a great job for us and it's great that managers do get recognized sometimes," said Bechtel, who also saw another one of his student managers, Tyler Miller, win a similar IBCA scholarship five years ago. "They put in a lot of time and sometimes don't get the recognition, like getting their picture in the paper or whatever the case may be."

Lopez and this year's other 35 recipients, named on Tuesday, May 6, each receive $750 scholarships. The group includes 17 girls players, 10 girls players, and nine other students who served as managers, statisticians, cheerleaders or in other team-related roles. Lopez was the lone area individual cited.

The scholarships are named for Marion Crawley, Pat Aikman and Junior Mannies.

Lopez, according to Bechtel, plans to study computer-related fields at Purdue.
