'LAX Out Childhood Cancer' lacrosse event Saturday in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — To focus a spotlight of awareness, Raider Lacrosse is hosting a "LAX Out Childhood Cancer" event on Saturday, May 3, at the Middlebury Magic soccer fields, 58685 C.R. 37.

Sam Grewe, a survivor of osteosarcoma (amputee), is a junior varsity player for the Northridge Raiders.

Grewe was adopted by the Notre Dame football teama93e269f-fb92-41f1-a248-4b068e2aec0b in 2012.

Eric Wentworth, another Northridge JV player, has a brother, Cameron Howard, dealing with cancer.

There will be no admission charge, but donations are welcome and "LAX Out" T-shirts and other Raider Lacrosse gear will be on sale. Food will also be available during the day-long event.

The Raiders are scheduled to play two varsity and two junior varsity matches, with Marian also taking part.

The schedule: Northridge varsity vs. South Bend Adams, 10 a.m.; Marian vs. Lafayette Harrison, noon; Northridge JV vs. Chesterton, 2 p.m.; Northridge varsity vs. Lafayette Harrison, 4 p.m.; Northridge JV vs. Chesterton, 6 p.m.
