Central, Jimtown, Penn each win in extra innings

Hixenbaugh homers in 13th for Penn; Jimtown prevails in 10 innings.

On a day chock full of extra-inning softball games, Kate Cobb's eighth-inning single lifted host Elkhart Central to a 5-4 win over Concord in the Blue Blazers' opener Wednesday, April 2.

Brittney VanderHoek, who had walked, scored her fourth run of the day for the walk-off victory in Brent Bardo's debut as Central's coach.

At Penn, Halle Hixenbaugh socked a three-run walk-off homer in the 13th inning as the Kingsmen rallied for a 6-4 season-opening win over Lake Central.

The game went scoreless through nine innings before each team scored three times in the 10th.

At South Bend, Jimtown erupted for three runs in the top of the 10th to beat Washington 7-4. Bailey Clark had four hits for the Jimmies.

At West Noble, Taylor Caouette allowed one run over 5 ⅔ innings and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double as Goshen beat the Chargers 17-6. Brittany Jones and Ali Nemeth drove in three runs apiece for the Redskins.
