Neveraski, DeFreese help Concord take baseball season opener

Brett Neveraski blasted a home run and drove in three runs while Nick DeFreese collected two hits, two runs, two stolen bases and struck out six batters in two innings of relief as Concord open the 2014 baseball season with a 6-3 victory at Lakeland.

At Syracuse, Kurtis Liston drove in five runs and Brett Carson and Nate Hare plated three each as Wawasee (1-0) beat Bethany Christian 19-0 in five innings. Hare and Gage Reinhard scored three runs apiece. Gage Fannin and Jordan Currie combined on a one-hitter.

At Nappanee, Jim Catanzarite double and drove in two runs as Marian beat NorthWood 3-1.
