Concord's Dawson named head football coach of North All-Stars

Tim Dawson will get another chance to beat Jake Gilbert.

Dawson, who coached Concord High School to back-to-back semistate football appearances, has been named as the head coach for the North squad in this summer's Granger Insurance All-Star game.

And he'll have a familiar coach across the sidelines on the South squad — Gilbert, whose Westfield club eliminated the Minutemen from the Class 5A tournament.

Dawson, the Minutemen coach for the last 25 seasons, will be joined by Concord assistant coach Sam Vaughan and players  Mike McQueen, a defensive tackle, and Adam Glanders. a wideout.

Jimtown's Cody Spurgeon, a center, and Penn's Aaron Hancock, an inside linebacker, also were named to play for the North in the annual charity game which is scheduled for Friday, July 18 and North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Other area players selected on offense were fullback Michael Hartman of Plymouth, lineman Hunter Schuman of Glenn, tight end Chad Swain of New Prairie and wide receiver Denton Gillis of South Bend St. Joseph. 

On defense, linebacker Gabe Furnivall of Warsaw, safety Daigen Morgan of South Bend Riley and linebacker Teegan Brumbaugh of Churubusco were chosen.

For the South team, Gilbert will be joined by his quarterback, Nick Ferrer, and assistant coach Ben Carnes.
