MISHAWAKA — Penn got a scare, but wrapped up its first outright Northern Indiana Conference boys basketball title since 2006 on Friday, Feb. 21, by edging host Marian 53-51.

The Kingsmen (17-1, 7-1) trailed by three late in the fourth quarter, but Billy Doslak’s 3-pointer put them up 49-46 with 1:10 remaining. Jordan Geist and Doslak then combined for 4-of-4 on free throws over the final 16 seconds.

Geist led Penn with 15 points.

Devin Cannady scored 20 for the Knights. Marian (10-7, 5-3) could’ve tied for the title with a victory, but had its six-game winning streak snapped.

The Kingsmen host NorthWood Tuesday in a matchup of 17-1 clubs.
