Students compete for Distinguished Young Women scholarship

ELKHART — Two Elkhart County high school students will compete in the Distinguished Young Women of Indiana scholarship competition Feb. 13-15 in Kokomo.

Christine Medin, an Elkhart Central student, and Erin Weber, a Northridge student, will participate in five areas of competition including scholarship, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression for the chance to win $25,500 in college scholarships.

Medin and Weber are two of 23 girls in the Indiana competition. During the week, they will rehearse for the competition, tour the city of Kokomo and present a “Be Your Best Self” program to local elementary schools.

The winner of the Indiana competition will advance to the Distinguished Young Women National Finals in Mobile, Ala., in June.

All programs are open to the public. Preliminary competitions will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, and Friday, Feb. 14, both at 7 p.m. in Indiana University Kokomo’s Haven Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

The finals will be held at Saturday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m in Haven Auditorium. Tickets are $15.
