RENSSELAER, Ind. -- Cody Spurgeon, a two-way standout for Jimtown's football squad, signed Wednesday, Feb. 5, to play football at St. Joseph's College.

Spurgeon joins Blake Faus of Elkhart Central in the Pumas' 2014 recruiting class.

The two-time All-Northern State Conference selection was a three-year starter at center and also started at defensive tackle the last two seasons for coach Mike Campbell's club. With Spurgeon as a leader in the offensive front the last three years, the Jimmies compiled a 31-7 record, two Class 3A sectional titles and an NSC championship.

"Most college centers today call a lot of things at the line. He's a bright kid. That's something he could really do. He can make those adjustments," Campbell said. "He's been our vocal and spiritual leader on and off the field. He'll be hard to replace, but he's excited."

The Pumas finished the 2013 season with an 8-3 record for coach Cory Sanders.
