AKRON — Short fields got Jimtown going, and the momentum continued as the No. 5-ranked Jimmies rolled to a first-round Class 3A Sectional football victory Friday, Oct. 25, at Tippecanoe Valley.

Jimtown (8-2) got started toward a 53-18 win against the Vikings (5-5) when senior nose tackle Cody Spurgeon gathered in his second interception of 2013 and rumbled to the Tippy Valley 5-yard line.

Two plays later, Jimmies senior fullback Casey Adams bulled into the end zone from the 3 with the first of his four rushing touchdowns (three in the first half).

“In the first half, we kept (the Vikings’ offense) off the field, but we got good field position not only with turnovers but with our special teams,” said Jimtown coach Mike Campbell. “They saw on film that we returned some punts last week, so they kick it out-of-bounds.”

The Jimmies, which earned the right to play Friday, Nov. 1, at Rochester (8-2), began its second scoring drive at the TV 40. Adams went the last yard for Jimtown.

The third scoring march for the visitors began at the 50 when junior Adam Gill pounced on a Viking fumble. Adams capped the short drive with 12-yard TD run.

A 1-yard sneak by junior quarterback Marquis Schieber wrapped a drive that began at the TV 42.

Junior halfback Nik Olson ripped off a 57-yard kickoff return to the TV 27. It was Olson running the last 14 yards.

Jimtown was ahead 39-0 at the end of the third quarter thanks to junior wingback Tyler Lundy’s 12-yard TD run. That scoring drive began at the TV 43.

Jimmie TD Nos. 6 and 7 were a 43-yard run by Adams on a drive that began at the TV 43 and a 20-yard Olson dash on a drive that featured runs of 32 and 26 yards by Olson.
