Penn, Bellville nab regional crowns; NW bound for its first-ever State Finals

KENDALLVILLE — Led by medalist Kari Bellville at 71 and co-runner-up Katie Willenbrink at 72, Penn rolled to its sixth straight girls golf regional title on Saturday, Sept. 28, while NorthWood captured its first-ever State Finals berth with its runner-up finish in the East Noble event on the Noble Hawk Links.

The Kingsmen shot 297 and the Panthers a school regional-record 335. Rochester earned the third and last State Finals spot at 338.

NorthWood was paced by Heidi Morganthaler at 75 and Linnzie Richner at 76. The Panthers soared up from ninth in the regional a year ago.

Elkhart Central, the only other Elkhart County regional qualifier, placed 13th among the 18 competing schools.

The State Finals are set for Oct. 4-5 at The Legends in Franklin.
