Wednesday’s boys tennis: Elkhart Central tops Elkhart Memorial

Blazers improve to 4-9.

Central topped Memorial 4-1 Wednesday, Sept, 11, in a clash of youth-dominated Elkhart boys tennis rivals.

“We both have young teams and are improving every day,” said Central coach Dave Whittaker.

Junior Eric Burton, freshman Andrew Salmon and sophomore Curtis Hill won singles matches while sophomores Alex Boyer and Christian Lankford teamed for a doubles victory for the Blue Blazers (4-9).

Winning for the Crimson Chargers (0-12) was the doubles duo of sophomores Jon Bailey and Stephen Tefft.

Eric Burton (C) def. Brenden Graber 6-0, 6-2. Andrew Salmon (C) def. Tristen Singleton 6-3, 6-0. Curtis Hill (C) def. Juana Pizana 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles

Jon Bailey/Stephen Tefft (M) def. Scott Hanberg/Will Riblet 6-3, 6-2. Alex Boyer/Christian Lankford (C) def. Brett Wilson/Justin Walter 7-5, 6-1.
