MIDDLEBURY — Northridge shed the NLC monkey off its back.

By holding Wawasee scoreless in the second half, the Raiders snapped a 14-game conference losing streak with a decisive 31-14 high school football victory Friday, Sept. 6.

“We knocked the monkey off our back, boys,” Northridge coach Tom Wogomon said to his squad, which improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1992.

“You answered the bell,” Wogomon said.

After trailing 14-10 late in the third quarter, the Warriors were driving deep in Raider territory before Cam Ridenour stepped in front of a Gage Reinhard pass at the 8 and raced 72 yards.

Two plays later, early in the fourth, quarterback Tanner Love scored the first of two one-yard dives. Love also hit Ridenour with a 33-yard TD pass in the Raiders’ 21-point period.

Ridenour also opened the game with an 18-yard dash up the middle, giving the Raiders a quick 7-0 lead. Wawasee came back in the second quarter as Reinhard hit Clayton Cook and Sam Clark on TD passes.

“We moved the ball all over the field in the second half. We just didn’t score,” said Warrior coach Josh Ekovich. “That turnover killed us. We had a 99-yard drive in the first half, we moved the ball, we were able to establish a run game in the second half and we didn’t finish.”
