JIMTOWN — Devan Emerson, a Jimtown High School graduate, has committed to continue his academic and football careers at Trine University in Angola.

Emerson, a running back and defensive back for the Mike Campbell-coached Jimmies, is coming off a prep career in which he rushed for more than 3,100 yards and scored more than 40 total touchdowns (rushing, receiving, returning etc.).

He is a three-time Indiana Football Coaches Association all-state and three-time all-Northern State Conference selection. He was also a part of Truth all-area teams and helped Jimtown win a sectional crown in 2011 and NSC title in 2012.

“He’s a hard-working kid and he’s very fast,” said Campbell of an athlete who also excelled as a sprinter and long jumper in track and field.

Emerson has indicated that he will likely pursue a degree in kinesiology or criminal justice.

Trine, an NCAA Division III program, is coached by Matt Land. The 2012 Thunder went 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
