Local athletes shine at meet

FORT WAYNE — Four local track and field athletes competed on Saturday, June 15 and helped the Indiana team to a pair of second place finishes in the annual Midwest Meet of Champions, which was held at Fort Wayne Northrop’s Spuller Stadium.

Fairfield’s Sophie Brown was the area’s top finishers, coming home third in the girls pole vault at 12-3.

Ohio won the girls event with 203 points, while Indiana was second with 154 1/2 and Michigan third with 109 1/2.

In the boys meet, Memorial’s Davontea Millsaps came home fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.88, while Elkhart Christian’s Joel Hartman ran a 4:19 in the 1600 and came home eighth. Penn’s Sam Daggy tossed the discus 148-0 and also finished eighth.

Ohio also won the boys event with 190 points, with Indiana second (163) and Michigan (112) third.

 Alex Oberlin won three events Tuesday, April 22, in helping Fairfield top Westview in boys track and field.
