Girls Tennis Penn powers past Valpo in reginal final

LAPORTE — The powerful Penn girls tennis team moved to within one victory of a second straight State Finals berth, as the fourth-ranked Kingsmen cruised past Valparaiso 5-0 in the title match of the LaPorte Regional on Wednesday, May 22.

Sophomore Haylei Snelson posted a tough 7-5 win in the opening set at No. 1 singles, before adding a 6-0 count in the second against Caitlin Kennedy. Maddie Lee and Katherine Mader also posted straight-set wins at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

Both doubles were likewise victorious in two sets.

Penn faces Culver Academy (12-4) at 11 a.m. ET Saturday, May 25, in a LaPorte Semistate championship. Valparaiso closes at 18-2.
