INDIANAPOLIS — As anticipated, Mr. Basketball runner-up Demetrius Jackson of Marian was named an Indiana All-Star, according to the sponsoring Indianapolis Star on Tuesday, April 9, while a trio of other Elkhart area hopefuls were shut out.
Jackson, a McDonald’s All-American and the Mr. Basketball runner-up to Michigan-bound Zak Irvin, plans to play next season at Notre Dame.
Concord’s Franko House, Memorial’s Markese McGuire and Penn’s Austin Torres — who have signed with Ball State, Illinois-Chicago and Notre Dame, respectively — were also viewed to varying degrees as candidates for the All-Star team, but none made the cut.
Besides Jackson and Hamilton Southeastern’s Irvin, the 13-member squad includes Triton’s Valparaiso-bound Clay Yeo.
Others on the team include Notre Dame-bound V.J. Beachem (New Haven), Indiana University-bound Devin Davis (Warren Central) and Collin Hartman (Indianapolis Cathedral), and Purdue-bound Basil Smotherman (Lawrence North) and Bryson Scott (Fort Wayne Northrop).
Also on the team are Tipton’s Mike Crawford, Castle’s Blake Simmons, Munster’s Michael Schlotman, Carmel’s Michael Volovic and Indianapolis North Central’s Darius Latham (who plans to play football at IU).
The Indiana All-Stars, coached by Carmel’s Scott Heady, face the Kentucky All-Stars on June 14 in Louisville, Ky., and on June 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Indiana All-Stars also are slated to play exhibitions June 10 and 12 against the Indiana Junior All-Stars at sites to be announced.
